The Watch
(That Ends the Night) Midcentury Bar
The Watch That Ends the Night is a cocktail bar and lounge inspired by Canadian literature and late-modern design in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
We choose finishes and materials that express the eclecticism in the 1950’s, while maintaining an overall contemporary aesthetic that is not out of place with the new development The Watch is located in. Mahogany, painted steel, dark quartz and graphic wallpaper all help achieve this balance.
The owners wanted a space that could be considered welcoming and casual, while promoting a level of elegance and quality. In pursuing these goals, we developed a layout and furniture scheme that is reminiscent of a hotel lobby bar—creating several spaces within to be functional for solo guests, or larger groups, and offering multiple types of seating and orientation.
